Boris Zbikowski, Ceramic Artist

My pieces are large, sculptural vessels crafted from stoneware clay. I use the traditional coil-building technique, which is simple yet ancient. This slow process, which resists rushing, has taught me that patience and deliberate craftsmanship are valuable skills.

When applying glaze to my work, I enjoy creating my own recipes. Despite the fluid nature of glaze, I prefer to add defined lines through careful application, often highlighting the beauty of the raw, unglazed clay alongside the glazed areas.

In designing both individual pieces and series, I am guided by a clear vision of where I want my objects to find their place. With a background in Interior and Set Design, I understand the power of the right object in the right spot, and I aim to create pieces that complement and enhance their environment.

I draw from a rich palette of inspirations—nature, film, architecture—and I try to translate them into my work with sensitivity.
